Ok, so here are the minor sketches I did while getting my hair done this past Saturday.  Sadly most of the work I do in there is all profile work, I really wished I could do more frontal or three quarter views but with the hair styling process, usually the stylist is in the way or they need to twirl the customer around in the chair as they work on their hair.  I felt I was going rather slow this time, but then trying to draw while customers were chatting away about their shopping or holiday excursions did make it a little tough to get a solid drawing down.  The one to the left is a quick sketch of a lady as I was waiting for my stylist to finish with ther previous client.  The ones to the right were done while my hair was being saturated with more highlights and some coloring.  This time around I went with some reds in my hair.  Not sure if I like it fully or not.  Some days I'm like "WOW, this is so edgy for me!" and other days it's like "Ehhh... not sure about this." Oh well, in another week once most of it's faded I'll probably have a better opinion on the matter.

This second cluster of work I did today while at lunch.  Back when I attended Revelations I met with this awesome guy who did a lot of creature work via markers and pen.  I tried to use this same technique, sketching down a silhouette with marker then filling in the details with a mircon pen, but I think the bulk of these are pretty lame.  Either I'm not imaginative enough or my planning stinks.  I'm thinking that first I need to get a thinner pen because even a .03 isn't fine enough to do these things.

Oh well, onto the next project!

Right, this is a sketch I did while listening to Globus, Prediator,  over and over again.  It's really an epic song.  Anyway, I can't seem to 1) plan out this figure too well and 2) get the right epic feel to it either.  Plus I need to figure out what to do in terms of clothing but that can come in the form of other sketches.  Need to go through my resources of clothing and armor to figure out something interesting.

Want to really play with lighting on this one too.  Might have a second go at this one soon.

I ended up looking over at Concept Art's Daily Sketch thread the other day and noticed one of the entries to do an alien forest.  I was originally thinking in terms of something veggie looking like the one in the middleground.  It's a bit eclectic in design... obviously not as well thought out as some others I've done.  But eh, it was interesting to do.  That tree in the foreground almost looks like it is melting. :P

I also need to start using thicker pencils to lay down quick strokes.  While I love working with the mechanical pencil, it just doesn't give the coverage I need when trying to work fast.

Here is a sketch I did yesterday.  A touch more tranquil than the mess that is today.  Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go kill some orcs or goblins or something.

This was a quick sketch I did yesterday based off a dream I had the night before. There was this unknown planet that mankind landed on and they had set up a research facility to study this local species of creature. The location was in a very cold, Antarctic like, environment, and these beasties that lived there were being captured and experimented on by the researchers.

This is a little more of a refined sketch I did today at work (in which I had not much to do almost all day). The original design turned out to be a little too wolf like and these things were supposed to be more of a draconic race but they had more canine features. Not only this, they were pure white in color, both in skin tone and their feathers, with little dots of blue and turquoise scattered in patterns along their backs. These "dragons" gave live birth, had their own language, and as the scientists found out, were a lot more crafty than just basic animals they believed them to be. In the dream, they broke free of their cages, killed much of the team, and took those who sympathized with them back to their ice caverns. Honestly the scan doesn't do the original justice. Everything get's so washed out.

Bit of an older sketch but one I still rather like and might take to a finished illustration. King Tritan's other daughter, Aubel. She was a frightful, pale, lankey creature that the king didn't wish the merfolk to know about. Even though she was quite sickly to gaze upon, she had the most hauntingly beautiful voice that was so powerful that when she sang, strange magics would stir about her. One evening the king was to stage an event for all his other daughters to sing in, but Aubel wasn't permitted to go. She no longer wished to be shut away from the rest of her people, so she planned to take the spotlight when the concert was at it's apex. Donning her finest jewels, she then used her voice to spring open the locks to her room. With her songs guiding her, she used them to put her sisters into a trance then sat upon the clam seats that would rise to the upper atrium.

As music above her thrummed, and the seat then rose to mark her cue. As the kelp weed curtains parted, the merfolk audience beheld a ghastly creature. But before anyone could react, Aubel closed her eyes and sang forth a tune that mezmorised the audience. So dark and so sad was her song, that the magic swirling about her began to transform the merfolk into common sea creatures. When she opened her eyes, the stadium, and her father, were all nothing more than creatures swimming about the chamber. Anguish swept through her, and she fled the palace and into the deepest places of the ocean where no light dwelt. She sang one last song of grief and with that was transformed into a fish herself.
