PostHeaderIcon More WIP - Star Chasers

More WIP to the Unimoose and his Inuit pal and wolvish friends.  I'm still in the utter refining stages to this.  Need to get all the details squared away before diving into the color version.

*sigh* One of these days I will be finishing this!!

PostHeaderIcon LOST - Scheming Man in Black

Finished this after two days if piddling around with it.  I still think the Man in Black is hot as hell and I wouldn't mind getting stuck on that island with him even in all his moody, broody, sulky, manipulative, I-want-to-kill-my-brother ways. Ahh...  if only...

PostHeaderIcon Sketch 31 - Smoke Rings

Just a little change of pace from what I have been working on.  I need a break from it since it feels I keep slamming my head against a brick wall.  So here you go.  A little dragon blowing smoke rings. =p

PostHeaderIcon Continued WIP

Another update.  Been working hard over the weekend to try and push this along. Didn't get nearly as far as I wanted to for one reason or another.  I spent far too much heckling over minor elements that I SHOULD have done long before I started painting this.  Tonal studies? NAH! Who needs those?! *facepalm* Lesson be learned.  Technically, if I was smart, I'd scrap this and start it all over again and do it properly.  I just hate to think I spent all this time working on something  I believed would be my next portfolio piece, but it ended up getting chucked aside instead. Well... at this point, if I keep forging ahead and keep fussing with the project I might end up making a technically weaker piece than I originally wanted.  I'm just pondering if there's anything salvageable at this point. :-/

I did, however, move those BG dragons over just a touch so they wouldn't lead the eyes off the page. :D Thanks Angela for the critique! :)

PostHeaderIcon Powweb still a dunce

More WIP to my last update.  Not happy with how the peasants are turning out.  Need to reanalyze what direction to go with those guys.  Might have to completely redo. :/

PostHeaderIcon Durraiz - Circles of Power Fan Art

Right, so having stayed home for almost 3 days now due to illness (our boss so lovingly sent us home and doesn't want us there until we are better) this has allowed me time to sit and actually work on art.

This project was started a month ago as a sketch for a piece of fan fiction I've been reading over the past few years. This work, found at this link here, chronicles the adventures of two young girls and many other characters who are original creations to Tolkiens world.  It's a little different, more dark, but also more developed in terms of having better, non-mary sue characters involved in the story.  It's hard to come by a lot of good Tolkien fan fiction out there, and this one I've really enjoyed reading thus far.

Anyway, this character is Durraiz, an orcess who administers punishment to the Rohirric women who dared to try and flee from their captor slavers.

Here is a detail since the original might be on the smallish side:

PostHeaderIcon Lunch Sketch 18 - Big Croc Smiles

This was a request from a poster a while back! Apologies for getting this done so late! But it was fun to draw something I have never drawn before! :)

PostHeaderIcon Lunch Sketch 17 - Sandy Castles

Right so with the family cruise coming up quickly, I am really itching to get out and see some sun.  Honestly I’ve been having fun making these little guys and gals.  Keeps me going at work with something more light hearted and comical in order to deal with the stress and worry at the day job.  Plus you can’t go wrong with monsters. Even the cute ones. So here we go, first sketch for April.  I also finally fixed my monitor too, but I suspect the color profile is off and need to look into it. I missed out on finished an orc painting for a fan fiction I’ve been reading.

PostHeaderIcon Lunch Sketch 16 - Ocean Romp

Just another sketch.  Yeah yeah, I’m getting behind.  Right now I’m fighting with an issue regarding my monitor and graphics card.  For some dumb reason I can no longer use higher resolutions on my display and it’s really driving me insane because it worked fine just a few days ago! Damn technology always seems to find a way to play dumb when you don’t need it to.  Once I get this fixed, I’ll have more work to finish up.

PostHeaderIcon Lunch Sketch 15 - Hiding Hobbits

Blah, this week hasn’t been all that conducive to art. We found out at work early this week that we could, in fact, take a half hour lunch instead of being forced to take a whole hour.  So, since I do prefer to leave work at 4:00, I ended up starting to take that said half an hour which really isn’t a while heck of a lot of time for sketching anything like the above.  Truth be told, this was done over several lunches, so if I start to look like I’m slowing down it’s because I’m spacing out my time with drawing.  Though one could argue that these are sketches after all and don’t require spending that much time on them.  Eh, what can you do? Incidentally, I do have more art sitting in my sketchbook that’s begging to get painted.  Will most likely start something tonight and probably finish tomorrow since a) I’m really mentally exhausted from the time change and b) have to leave in 10 min to go work out.  Being an owl who has to get up before the crack of dawn is not cool.

PostHeaderIcon Lunch Sketch 14 - At the Beach

Kinda where I’d like to be right now.  Common summer! Get here sooner!

PostHeaderIcon Lunch Sketch 13 - Oracle

So with yesterday’s image being something of colossal fail, today’s didn’t go as bad.  It helped that I had a little more focus on what I honestly wanted to create, rather than stabbing at the dark and making something random.  Humanoid drawings don’t tend to go down well as if I had drawn creatures instead.  Not to mention, I was having issues with the last pose too and this one is a little more calmer.  But that in itself bugs me as most poses I’ve done tend to be rather on the static side and having more dynamic action in the figure is something I want to strive for.

Again, I must also stress when it comes to clothing, I need more experience.

PostHeaderIcon Lunch Sketch 12 - Rogue

Sketch done yesterday.  You know… the more I do these, the more I’m realizing how little of clothing and armor I know as I just keep repeating the same things over and over again.  This sketch is made of fail on many levels, but the point of posting is 1) to show that all artists have their bad drawings 2) for me to recognize where I’m going wrong and go about correcting them.  Methinks that one thing I will be doing this upcoming weekend is going through my clothing books and doing a little more research.

PostHeaderIcon Lunch Sketch 11 - Pot Merchant

Yay for completely wonky perspective! Even though the angles are skewed beyond belief, this simple merchant takes his store of wares around various towns to make his modest living.  This was based off  a little doodle I did a while ago and just wanted something more fleshed out.

I'm kinda making up some time here as I haven't really updated this in a while.  I HAVE however been drawing and my website has all the recent artwork.  So this is me playing catch up! :)

PostHeaderIcon Chocolate Mint Swirl Snail of Foowishi

The very rare Chocolate Mint Swirl Snail slowly plods it’s way through the mystical forests of Foowishi, a planet very far and distant from our own.  These little creatures emit high levels of mint scent and as a result, taste utterly horrid to the local population of predators.

I have this sweet tooth when it comes to anything mint.  Peppermint, spearmint, you name it, it is delicious to me. One day, after indulging in a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, I partook in their basket of after dinner mints they had placed near the door.  Picking up the small, plastic wrapped edible object, I took note that it wasn’t made like the standard red and white round mints and these ones had a spiral shape to them.  An idea popped into my head, and I knew I had to do a fusion of snail and food.

Chocolaty escargot perhaps? Hmm… that would be kinda gross.

Incedently, I have my website up and running now if in case people are watching me here.
Pretty much all you see here will be there, and then some.  Blogspot just wasn't going to cut it in terms of having a portfolio, and wordpress just seemed like it would be more in league with my needs. :)

PostHeaderIcon Sand Eel

Sand eel chasing down prey.  When I was walking in Garden of the Gods, there was a rock formation that could either be interpreted as a penis or an eel head.  Rather than allowing my brain to slip and slid it’s way down into the gutter more than necessary, I decided to go the eel route.  Since the park location is rather arid in climate, I decided to go ahead and do the creature in a similar environment.  Doesn’t quite communicate what I was going at, and for the life of me I still can’t figure out how’d that giant beast would be floating.  Perhaps those things it eats gives it colossal gas to the point that it floats. :P

I really should find a sketchbook that has a midtone already established.  Would take less time doing these build ups and perhaps I could finish a piece while on my lunch hour.

They can be as cruel as wild beasts or as benevolent and sweet as new born lambs, but rest assured that while walking withing their realm of the trees, they shall always be watching you.

PostHeaderIcon Further evidence that Bees rock!

Not only can these amazing pollinators be trained to sniff out explosives, they also have proven to able able to recognize patterns.  Quote from article: "Dr. Arian Dyer from Monash University, Dr. Martin Giurfa from the Universite´ de Toulouse, France, and their team conducted the study.

They then added in other dot-dash images to the mix with the symbols cramped together, others with them farther apart, and the bees continuously went to the original photo -- the one most face-like and where the reward was given -- even after the sugar solution was taken away.

The researchers say this proves that the bee could recognize a specific pattern and remember it as a reward source."

You can read the whole article here: Cool Bee Article

Did this other little illustration today.  The line work is done traditionally with Micron Brush pen on smooth bristol board.  Man I'm really digging working a little bit traditionally again.  Think I might do some more pen and ink stuff in the future! Color was done via Corel Painter. :>

PostHeaderIcon Tuffies Revenge!

Right, so there was a Daily Sketch challenge over at Concept Art that caught my eye: create an old oak mech that had no divisions or cuts within it.  It had to be natural.  Honestly I was hard pressed to come up with something decent in terms of an idea for the actual mech, and when confronted with the limitations it just expounded on that issue.  BUT as I drew things, this idea sort of sprang into my head.  Once upon a time, in the forest where I spent the better part of my childhood, there were these awesomely cute tuffed eared black squirrels that lived in the woods. Not sure if their common name was Albert Squirrel or if they were some different kind.  Anyway, the grey squirrels had vastly out numbered them  and eventually you hardly ever saw these squirrels. So in this image, the "Tuffies" fight back! Constructing their large inconspicuous oak mech in the deep woods, they plot their revenge on the grey squirrels and eventually launch a counter attack to maintain their status in the woodland community! Hails of acorns raid down on the bewildered greys as they flee in terror at the oncoming construct of doom!

Run Greys! Run!

PostHeaderIcon The Eyes Have it

Studies I did of my eyes.  Man, trying to stay still to get these done was a nightmare.  BUT I made it! Need to do some more studies like these later.

PostHeaderIcon Survivor

Right this was part of a dream I once had where humans pretty much screwed the planet up by doing something to the atmosphere which ultimately heated up the surface and made surface living impossible.  It also altered the weather patterns drastically where there would be massive wind storms with gusts of 100mph or more. Our race wasn't wiped out, but it did thin our numbers and forced us underground.  In these complexes were small communities of no more than 35-40 people with military staff manning the facility.  The military had also gained 100% control of everything and civilians were monitored and placed on very ridged schedules to keep order.  Our eating, socializing, exercising, and any other activity we engaged in was watched over with scutinizing eyes  One thing the military did do for us was allow us to go to the surface when the weather cooperated.

At one point, all us civs were allowed to go up and see the world for a brief period of time, but the winds started to pick up and I and two others couldn't make it back inside in time.  The wind picked us up, hurling us through a valley with giant red trees flanking both sides. One of the men was flung against a tree, killing him instantly, but me and another woman fell to the ground and landed in soft sand.  We got up, noticing an old run down store not far in the distance, then we began to walk to it.  For some reason, her feet began to burn extensively, making it impossible for her to walk.  I dragged her to the building where we grabbed a bunch of gear and bundled up.

There is more to the dream, but I want to take this drawing to a comic level and actually illustrate it.  The visuals were pretty interesting!

It's actually a little ironic as I was drawing this and watching the History Channel which is having a Doomsday week.

PostHeaderIcon WIP

Current image I've been working on today.  Not too sure if anatomy is the best, there seems to be still some sort of disconnect in between his stomach and back where his spine is curving.  Still, WIP.  If anyone has advice I'd love to hear it!

PostHeaderIcon Then She Smiled

Just a little fun in Corel Painter.  I need to get back to my pen and ink though for my octopus comic.

About the Artist

My photo
I'm a chick that just likes to draw. I try hard to be a decent artist, but hey, no one's perfect. This blog is just a repository of various ideas, sketches, drawings, or work in progress images that I've done. Why read this silly description? Just look at the art! ;)
